Congratulations to TEAM Rats on da Cheese for taking home the Team of the Year 2019 with 181.50 total inches for Spring and the Fall.  Team Breakfast Beer/Capt Brian Harris finished 2nd with 179.00." Third Place was Nauticole Marine/Manny Chmielewski and 4th Team Slade Em/Marty Slade.  Team Rats on da Cheese from Bradenton were awarded  GTE gift cards to each individual angler. GTE Rolls out Future Change for Charity

We are SO honored to be partnered with GTE and be the FIRST charity that was chosen to be the recipient of the Future Change program! It's SO exciting to know that we are going to be able to help MORE of those suffering this injury in MORE ways! It's so simple for GTE members (Free to join) as they use their debit cards for purchases, GTE will automatically round up your change from the transaction and send it to the Tighten The Drag Foundation Scholarship Fund. All you have to do is sign up for the Future Change program once you are a member and you can continue to save change for our Quality of Life program all year or you can change your charity at the end of  any month to benefit other worthy causes that GTE has selected to be the charities they support. Title Sponsor GTE Financial has made Tighten The Drag Foundation its CHARITY OF THE MONTH for the month of MARCH each year. In 2019, their employees raised over $20,000 for individuals with Spinal Cord Injuries. GTE Exec VP/COO Chad Burney suffered a Spinal Cord Injury himself as a result of a fall from a hunting blind in 2014. Chad now sits on the Board of Tighten The Drag Foundation as the Director of Partnerships helping to develop corporate sponsorships to fund the Quality of Life Scholarship Programs.

Virtual Walk/Roll/Stroll

Winter 2020

Walk/Run/Roll/Stroll with us in our Virtual Fundraiser. Sponsored participants receive t-shirt, keepsake medal, runners goodie bag, bib. Walk for those who can't for $25 or be a Green Ribbon Team leader and get 10 team sponsors for a total of a $250 donation. Spinal Injured will be walking also during Sept, National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month at their recovery centers in multiple ways! Stay tuned for info on a 5K we are planning for September.

Duck Derby Race


Sign up to support our Spinal Cord Injured by purchasing a Duck for the race for $5 or a Quack Pack for $25. You can support one  or all those who participate with a general donation . Derby race will be conducted at the Inshore Slam in the Magnuson Resort Pool. Help our paralyzed have a chance at recovery by sponsoring their therapy.  Donate as a family! Four Quack Packs will pay for an HOUR of specialized therapy.

Golf Classic- 8am  Mega ticket includes all games and chance to enter special raffle. Funds raised through our events will provide scholarships that allow the Injured to attend Activity Based exercise therapy rehabilitative and recovery programs either in home with a personal trainer or in licensed facilities,  participate in adaptive sports and  enjoy recreational activities .

We also provide emotional support and guidance for the Injured and their family Caregivers.


We Support therapeutic Adaptive Sports programs and recreational outings for the injured to get back into a healthy lifestyle with improved Quality of Life.

A broken neck or back are commonly caused by vehicle accidents, sporting activities, accidental falls, violence or other types of trauma.

Someone in our country is paralyzed every 38 minutes. Insurances do NOT COVER specialized recovery therapy.

Injuries commonly occur to children and young adults  age 16-30 but can happen to anyone at any age. No one is immune.

Mission Statement:

To extend the OPPORTUNITY for recovery and a better quality of life for those who have suffered 

a life changing paralyzing Spinal Cord Injury as a result of a catastrophic accident. 

Spinal Cord Injuries

The average newly injured person with a spinal cord injury will incur 1 million dollars in medical costs in their first year. If you are injured at age 25, your estimated lifetime costs will exceed 5 million dollars.  The average yearly medical costs after the first year can average $50,000-$100,000 depending on the level of injury. 

​ There are approximately 17,500 new spinal cord injuries in the US every year. There are over a half million people living with spinal cord injuries (SCI) in the United States.

Every 38 minutes in our country, a person becomes paralyzed. Vehicle accidents are the leading cause, with Falls being the second leading cause.

Sports related injuries are less than 10% of all spinal cord injuries but of the 10%, diving accidents account for 7%. 

There are over 5.6 million people in the US living with some type of Paralysis caused by Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Cancer,

Spinal Cord Injury, Transverse Myelitis and other nervous system disorders. Roughly 1 in 50 people.
